Sex Education in Special Education
School Psychologists Adam Moro, Amy Reale, Erin Cassidy, Speech Pathologist Alison Sekora, and Guidance Counselor Adrienne Nagy will lead a practical presentation on best practices in communicating with teenage children with special needs about puberty, relationships, and their developing bodies and minds. This workshop will focus on the gap between physical development and cognitive & emotional development often seen in children with special needs, and how to address these changes in a developmentally sensitive manner.

Unwind: Guided Relaxation
Amy Vigliotti, Psychologist, will facilitate an interactive workshop on mindfulness and relaxation, based upon her CD, "Unwind: Guided Relaxation.” The workshop will consist of a series of easy-to-do mental exercises that, when practiced regularly, lead to a healthy, relaxed body and a calm, alert mind. Meditation helps to voluntarily regulate attention, one of the hallmarks of effective learning. Parents can learn how to share these "tools" with their children to foster cognitive and emotional intelligence as well as an overall sense of well-being. Handouts and CDs will be available to participants to support future practice of the presented relaxation skills.

Planning for the Future of a Child with a Disability: Utilizing Special Needs Trusts
Stephen Ehrens, CPA, CLTC and father of a college-age child with learning and language challenges will present an informational workshop on financial planning for families of children with special needs. He will provide a five point planning process that is applicable to families of all income levels. This presentation will include information about establishing trusts, role of the financial planner, life insurance, assets, and the law applicable to trusts and estate planning. This presentation will include an attorney specialist in Trusts & Estates Planning.

The Playground to the Party: Navigating the Teenage Social Life
Integrated Services Coordinator/School Psychologist Adam Moro, Speech Pathologist/Special Education Teacher Elizabeth Fay, Social Worker Martine Soren, and Guidance Counselor Adrienne Nagy will discuss the evolution of the adolescent social life from Middle School to High School. This presentation will include how to encourage development of social independence and relationships, as well as the role of supervision of social interactions as adolescents grow into young adults.
