The League of American Bicyclists recognizes essential elements of a Bicycle Friendly University across 5 categories: Engineering, Education, Encouragement, Enforcement, and Evaluation and Planning. The following University programs and services encourage bicycling as a commuting option for the Columbia Community.

BRING YOUR BICYCLE ON THE INTERCAMPUS SHUTTLE

MEDICAL CENTER SHOWERS

Don’t like arriving to work or school sweaty from your ride? Utilize the showers at Plus One/NYPH Fitness Center for only $5 per month. For more information call: 212-305-1800.

DISCOUNTED BICYCLE LOCKS AND FREE REGISTRATION

Public Safety offers discounted bicycle locks and free bicycle registration with the NYPD & CU Public Safety.

Discounted bicycle locks can be purchased at the following Public Safety Office locations:

Morningside Campus: Low Memorial Library, Room 111

Medical Center Campus: Black Building, Room 109

Bicycle Engraving:

Engraving your bicycle will increase your chances of recovering it in the event it is lost. Visit the Public Safety website for more information.

Workshops and Events

BICYCLING WORKSHOPS

In collaboration with Bike New York, the Office of Work/Life offers bicycling workshops to the Columbia community, including Bicycling Street Skills and Bicycle Commuting 101. 

BIKE TO CAMPUS DAY!

Bike to Campus Day is held a few times a year at the CUMC and Morningside campuses. Get discounted locks, free tune ups, and free bicycle registration.

Bicycling Working Group

BICYCLE WORKING GROUP

Columbia University’s Wellness Advisory Committee formed the Bicycling Working Group in the Fall of 2013. Representatives from various University departments, including Public Safety; Environmental Stewardship; Facilities Morningside; Facilities CUMC; Facilities Manhattanville; Government and Community Affairs; and the Office of Work/Life actively participate.
