Employee Assistance Program

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides a network of specialized services, including short-term counseling, to help you and your household members cope with everyday issues such as stress, work/life balance, relationships, depression, drug and alcohol addiction, wellness and the management of adult/elder care responsibilities, among others. For a brief outline of the types of services provided, please review the following document. The EAP also offers discounts, which are accessible through HR Benefits.

All services are provided by Harris Rothenberg, International (HRI) at no cost to you or your family.  Harris Rothenberg's counselors are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 888-673-1153.  The EAP is a confidential service available to faculty, researchers, administrators and staff who are eligible to receive medical benefits from Columbia.

For more details, visit the HRI website (username: columbia; password: eap).

The EAP has recently launched several new services(information is accessible by logging in to the website):

CaringBridge: This service provides free websites that connect people who are experiencing a significant health challenge to their family and friends. The websites can be used to share information regarding updates about the patient’s health, or to request help from loved ones.

Skype based counseling: For employees (or their family members) who cannot meet with a counselor in person, this service enhances telephonic counseling with a video component, providing face-to-face interactions (Users must have Skype and a webcam). This is accessible through desktop computers, smart phones, and tablets.

Life Coach: This is a free online program to support, motivate, and encourage you to make and maintain lifestyle changes such as quitting tobacco and staying smoke free, achieving and maintaining a healthy weight, reducing and managing stress, adopting healthy habits, becoming better organized, or dealing with financial issues. The employee and coach will divide goals into small, achievable steps in order to accomplish your lifestyle changes.

Mobile Site: This is a mobile site for smart phones and tablets, accessible through the same URL as the website. This service provides information and resources on programs, services and health and wellness 24/7.
