Kids Summer Reading Programs in New York City
Take advantage of New York City's wonderful opportunities for kids of all ages to get involved in summer reading clubs and programs:
Barnes & Noble: Kids in grades 1 - 6 read eight books and get one free. Once they complete their eight books, they can choose a free book from a set list. For more information, please visit Barnes & Noble's summer reading website.
Borders: Kids under 12 read 10 books and get one free. Once they complete their 10 books, they can choose a free book from a set list. For more information, please visit Border's summer reading website.
H.E.Buddy Summer Reading Club: After reading 10 books and submitting a H.E.Buddy Summer Reading form, kids receive a free prize. For more information and to access the reading form, please visit H.E.B's summer reading club website.
National Amusements Theatres: Free admission to kids on
Wednesdays at 10 AM from July 6 - August 10 when they turn in a book report
form (downloaded from their website)- Bookworm Wednesday movie at select
theatre/movie and your book report is price of admission (download book report

New York Public Library (NYPL)
and young adults log the books read and present information about their summer
reading activities in a fun, safe and anonymous way. This site is all about
reviewing books, winning badges for accomplishments in reading and other
library related activities. Kids are

PBS Kids Summer Reading Community Challenge: A six week program where kids can register online and receive:
- A daily email with fun activities
- Tricks and advice from your Challenge coach
- Great book suggestions for kids of all ages

Scholastic Summer Challenge: Children log the number of minutes spent reading in order to try to reach weekly goals, earn digital prizes and help set a world record. For more information, please visit Scholastic's summer challenge website.
TD Bank Summer Reading Program: Kids, age 18 and under, receive a $10 deposit into a TD Bank Young Savers Account after reading 10 books. To have $10 deposited into a new or existing TD Young Savers Account, kids must:
- Read 10 books
- Write down the names of the books they've read in the Summer Reading Form
- Print and take the form to the nearest TD Bank
