Work/Life Programs

Office of Work/Life

The Office of Work/Life has many programs and services that are available to spouses and partners of University faculty, staff, and students.  These programs and services include:

  • Backup Care is intended to provide backup support for dependents of Columbia University faculty, staff, and doctoral students when normal arrangements are disrupted and/or when short-term care is needed. Please review the website for eligibility requirements and program details.
  • The Breastfeeding Support Program is available for both access to lactation rooms and sale of breast pump attachments while visiting Columbia University campuses.
  • Discounts have been made available to the Columbia community by many local and national organizations.  Please review the website for more information.
  • Dual Career Services assist the accompanying spouses/partners of newly recruited faculty who are interested in pursuing careers in NYC metro area. In addition, the Higher Eduaction Recruitment Consortium (HERC) is a good resource for academic and non-academic careers in the greater New York metropolitan area and southern Connecticut.
  • Housing Information and Referral Service provides individual consultations on renting or purchasing apartments and homes within commuting distance of Columbia University campuses.
  • School and Child Care Search Service  offers personalized assistance and advocacy to parents who are researching and applying to child care and K-12 schooling in and around the New York area.
  • A workshop series each semester covering a variety of work/life topics, including adult and elder care, personal wellness, housing, schooling, child care, and more.
