Paula Span: The Challenges and Joys of Adult/Elder Caregiving

Paula Span, writer of the New York Times blog The New Old Age and author of "When the Time Comes: Families With Aging Parents Share Their Struggles and Solutions," Columbia University School of Journalism will host a discussion about the challenges and rewards (yes!) of caring for aging relatives while keeping a job and having a life.  This session will explore the ways in which care giving has evolved from previous generations and the resulting need to initiate and continue difficult conversations with loved ones.

This discussion will include:
  • The risks, physical, psychological and financial, that caregivers face
  • The legal documents that older adults should complete and that family caregivers should have available
  • Some sources of help, for both older adults and their caregivers, that can be tapped
