Step into Spring: CUHR Step Challenge
Step up with your Human Resources colleagues this spring and join the Step into Spring: CUHR Step Challenge! Columbia University Human Resources will join together in teams to achieve the highest step goal, increase physical activity, add moments of mindfulness, and engage in some healthy teams’ competition. The challenge will be hosted on a mobile app, where you can track your steps, share photos, and more.
Challenge Dates: Friday, May 5 - Friday, May 26, 2023
Participants will aim for 7,000 steps per day to compete in Human Resources teams to reach the highest average miles by the challenge end. Individuals will also compete to achieve the highest steps, increase moments of mindfulness, and more.
Awarded at the end of the challenge to participants in the following categories:
- CHALLENGE MVP: the participant with the highest total step count by the challenge end
- TOP STEPPING TEAM: the team with the highest average miles by the challenge end
- MINDFULNESS RAFFLE: all participants who have indicated completing a mindfulness practice 10 times throughout the challenge will be entered to win a prize (2 prize winners)
- STEP CONTRIBUTOR RAFFLE: all participants who have contributed steps to the challenge total will be entered in a raffle to win healthy prizes (2 prize winners)
You can create your MoveSpring account on a computer or by downloading the MoveSpring app to your mobile phone. When prompted, use the organization code CUWELL.

- Follow the steps to create your MoveSpring account & connect a device. You’ll automatically be added to the challenge!
- When registering you will be able to join a team. Click the "join team" button to join your chosen team.

When you sign up for MoveSpring, you connect a wearable device, smartphone, or selected manual entry to track your steps. Here is how to make sure your steps and all other activities count:
- Remember to sync your data from your device to the app to update your total steps each day. Learn more about syncing here as it varies by the type of device you have.
- Count other physical activity (e.g.: yoga or biking) and wheelchair distance towards your step goal by using the activity converter on MoveSpring.

- Lunchtime walk kick-off:
- Wednesday, May 10, 12-12:30 PM. Meet in front of Studebaker for a stretch and then walk around campus 2-3 times or walk around Riverside Park.
- “Manhattanville Mile”
- Tuesday, May 16, 1-1:30 PM. Join us for a mid-day break as we step together around Manhattanville.
- Thursday, May 18, 1-1:30 PM. Join us for a mid-day break as we step together around Manhattanville.
- Morning walk meet-up
- Tuesday, May 23, 9:15-9:45 AM. Meet in front of Studebaker for a stretch and campus walk.
