Understanding the Financial Aid and Affordability at Independent K-12th Grade Schools co-sponsored by The School at Columbia
Paying for an independent school education represents a significant investment for families. While affordability can be a legitimate concern, understanding how independent schools work to bring tuition costs closer to a family's financial reality can make this option more accessible than many families initially assume. This session is designed to help families understand what to expect throughout the financial aid process, distinguish fact from common misconception, and identify the resources and support available to them.
Drawing on extensive expertise in tuition pricing, affordability trends, and financial aid administration across K–12 independent schools, this workshop will provide families with a comprehensive overview of the financial aid landscape, including:
- The Financial Aid Process. A clear explanation of how financial aid works at independent schools, and what families can realistically expect as they move through it.
- Separating Fact from Fiction. An honest look at common misconceptions surrounding financial aid eligibility and affordability.
- Resources and Support Available to Families. Guidance on how to access and leverage the support systems in place to help families navigate this process.
This session is applicable to families applying across all grade levels, from kindergarten through high school entry, and includes time reserved for questions.
