Columbia vs. NYU: The Uptown/Downtown University Step Challenge
Faculty and Staff Only
Increase physical activity and well-being this fall! For three weeks, each university will join together as one team to see whether the uptown or downtown NYC university will achieve the highest average step count by the challenge’s end.
Monday, October 2 - Friday, October 20, 2023
Aim for 7,000 steps (or more) daily to contribute to team Columbia’s average total step count as we try to surpass team NYU’s!
- Sync your steps daily. Having zero steps impacts team scores which are based on average total steps. Users who do not sync at least once every 7 days will be removed from their team.
- An activity cap of 30,000 steps per day has been added to the team leaderboard, which means that each individual can sync no more than 30,000 steps daily.
- You will be reminded to sync your steps one final time at the end of the challenge. There will be a 3-day grace period to sync your steps after the challenge ends.
When you sign up for MoveSpring, you connect a wearable device, smartphone, or selected manual entry to track your steps. Here is how to make sure your steps and all other activities count:
- Remember to sync your data from your device to the app to update your total steps each day. Learn more about syncing here as it varies by the type of device you have.
- Count other physical activities (e.g.: yoga or biking) and wheelchair distance toward your step goal by using the activity converter on MoveSpring.
- Convert wheelchair distance to steps by using this conversion chart and manually adding them on the MoveSpring app.
