CU Summer Fitness Challenge

This summer is the perfect time to improve your physical fitness by joining the CU Summer Fitness Challenge! By enrolling in this online challenge, hosted on the mobile app MoveSpring, you will be challenged to move for 30 minutes each day.  We’ll share a daily exercise video for inspiration, but you can clock your workout in many different ways. You can engage in your favorite home workout, go for a jog or power walk, complete your house chores, and more.  Let’s get moving- we can’t wait to see you on the app!

Program Details

Registration : Finalize your registration by filling out a registration survey by Wednesday, July 8.

Challenge Dates: Monday, July 13-Friday, July 31

Challenge goal: Engage in at least 30 minutes of moderately intense physical activity every day.

  • Exercising at a “moderately intense” intensity means you would be able to talk, but not sing during the activity.  If you are engaging in “vigorously-intense” exercise, you would not be able to say more than a few words without pausing for a breath.
  • Activities can include: fitness videos shared on the MoveSpring app, OWL yoga videos, your favorite at-home workout, a power walk or jog as its safe, and more. House chores like vacuuming or yard work can count too.
  • Your 30 minutes of physical activity can be accumulated in bouts of 10 or 15 minutes at a time or you can go for all 30 minutes at once.

*This challenge tracks active minutes, or the number of minutes you are engaging in physical activity each day.

There are two ways to track your active minutes:

  • Manual entry:  If you do not have a fitness tracker or wearable device this is the tracking method for you. With manual entry, you keep track of your active minutes and enter them in the app each day.
    • *iPhone users: Apple Health does not record active minutes so you will need to manually enter your data (unless you have a wearable device- see below).

  • Fitness tracker or wearable device:  If you have an Apple Watch, Fitbit, Garmin, Misfit, and Withings, you can connect your device to automatically sync your active minutes.  Be sure to sync your data each day!

*Use the activity override feature to help record active minutes that your device may not register, for example rowing, swimming, or housework like vacuuming

Participants scoring in the top 10% will be entered in a raffle to win one of three premium prizes, plus bragging rights! Prizes will also be awarded to the two most improved participants.

Stay in touch with your colleagues throughout the challenge by using the chat function on the MoveSpring app. Here, you can share a workout selfie, motivational thought, and more. You can also “like” and comment on posts in the app!
