English Language Learner Support

Services for ELL students vary depending on the type of school setting you choose. NYC Public Schools and Charter Schools are required to provide programs and services to help students learn English and these programs and services are free to families.

Many of the independent and faith-based schools make individual determinations on how best to support a student who is learning English. Typically, the focus of this support will be to help the child build social and academic skills in English by building language development and content knowledge. Sometimes these schools may request that a family pay for additional language instruction.
